CARACTERIZACIÓN DEL PERÍODO DE CRECIMIENTO AGROCLIMÁTICO DEL MAIZ (Zea maíz) EN LA PROVINCIA LOS RÍOS

Resumen

La evaluación de las condiciones agroclimáticas del cultivo del maíz (Zea mayz) en la provincia Los Ríos, Ecuador, es un paso decisivo hacia el uso sostenible de los servicios agroecológicos que permite la racionalización de los recursos hídricos. La caracterización del Período de Crecimiento Agroclimático (PCA) del cultivo del maíz en su período de crecimiento, enmarcado entre las siembras de septiembre y diciembre, arrojó resultados que favorecen a las regiones de Quevedo, Buena Fe, Valencia, Guasaranda y Guasaranda- N, que alcanzan 150 días. Con alguna afectación en julio se encuentran Pichilingue, Quinsaloma, La Catorce y Puerto Ila, que alcanzan valores de 140 días. Las áreas con mayores afectaciones resultaron I. María, Babahoyo, Balzar, Baba, Vinces, Palenque, Urdaneta y Montalvo, con valores entre 10 y 80 días. En estas últimas zonas no son recomendable las siembras entre mayo y julio.
