Abstract

The phytopathogenic impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV) is transmitted by thrips and its capable of infecting many crops, causing huge losses in both vegetables and ornamentals. The aim of this work was to improve the detection of INSV virus in different species of ornamental plants. Therefore, samples of thrips as well as de Impatiens balsamina (rose balsam), Impatiens hawkeri (New Guinea impatiens), Catharanthus roseus (periwinkle), Cyclamen persicum (cyclamen) and Pelargonium hortorum (geranium) plants with symptoms of viruses were collected and positive samples were identified by RT-PCR technique and used to standardize the RT-LAMP technique. The results show that the use of RT-LAMP allows the detection of the virus in a simpler way and 60 times more sensitive than RT-PCR.
